M33

Rich, Alex, Trevor anyone else: I've googled a lot of sites and images to see what my rigid B33 should look like. Then I started wondering why they were selling M33 and B33 at the same time. Whats different enough to warrant another model? Most I've looked at are plunger frame, that era.Like that beautiful plunger on the last page or two of the BSA pictures thread.I can't tell if its B or M.Support Your #1 BritBike Forum!Check out British motorcycles for sale:Re: B33, M33 Differences?08/20/09 4:19 pm. Alex & tt have pretty well covered it. The frame is the major difference between the 2.

B33 frame had no tubes under the engine, M33 used the M series frame which had tubes under the trans/engine and attached to the front engine mount plates. Frame also had lugs for the side car to attach. For whatever reason, I thought the rigid & plunger B33 used the same trans as the M models. Guess I should look that up.

The M models never did use the swing arm gearbox found on the A & B series.Engines are identical spec except for the stampings on the LH case for the model code. Alex/RichIm still a relative novice to the whole M series details thing but FWIW my says:'the g/b fitted to M series models also fitted to pre 1955 B series machines can be identified by the circular SCREW IN clutch adjustment cover.the second type of g/b introduced in late 1954 which is utilised in B series and goldstar models.(the g/b with 2 retaing screw on that cover).'

.(Haynes)Looking at they exploded view they are totaly diffrent gearboxes. My factory parts book (49-58)for the m20 shows the same gearbox as the m21 and m33.Leon:So from that it looks to me as if B series had a diffrent g/b from 55 on but the same pre55.what year is your B33? Iggy,From '49 on, it appears that all plunger and rigid M and B-series bikes had the same gearbox, regardless of year. Since there was some overlap between the swingarm and rigid/plunger B-series models, there is no firm cutoff date.Between '46 and '49, however, the M-series used a somewhat different gearbox from the B-series. Most of the internals interchange, but the cases are different with the main difference being the clutch actuation mechanism.BTW, Leon, for some really good period info, the on BSA singles to 1963 is an excellent source.
